A new basement hatch cover with convenient operation is in demand

The cover of the exterior basement cover had seen better days. It was about time for something new.

The customer contacted a local metal works company. It was no problem at all for them to design and manufacture two sturdy new cover panels. But now, they also wanted some comfort. Gas springs needed to be used to help open the panels and then hold them open.

The metal works company called in DICTATOR to help with the gas springs. After all, gas springs are only a very simple product at first glance. However, their optimal function is influenced by many factors. What can possibly go wrong? See our article on this subject.

Many factors have to be taken into account when calculating gas springs for basement hatch covers

DICTATOR calculated the appropriate gas springs for the cover as well as their fixing points. It was taken into account that the flaps should remain in the closed position without additional locking – and this, of course, even with corresponding sunlight and high temperatures in summer (per 3° temperature difference, the force of the gas spring increases by approx. 1% – the specified force of a gas spring is measured at approx. 20°!) Nevertheless, the forces for opening must not be too high at the beginning, of course.

Thanks to the calculation beforehand, the fitting points at the flaps and the basement outlet could already be taken into account during the construction of the covers for the basement outlet. This saved time and thus costs in the production of the flaps, because the fixing brackets were welded in the right place right from the start.

The result: an extremely happy customer who provided us the photos: “We are not only satisfied but still totally thrilled with the way the metal construction company carried out the work. (We would have liked to mention the name of this competent company here, but unfortunately it will soon cease business operations for retirement reasons and therefore did not want to be named 🙁 ).
