DICTATOR is an internationally active, medium-sized family-owned company with headquarters in Neusäß near Augsburg, Germany. Since its foundation in 1932, DICTATOR has continuously expanded its product range and today manufactures high-quality, reliable products for the following application areas: lifts & lift equipment, door closing solutions, hydraulic dampers, door and gate operators, fire door operators, fire door control solutions, gas springs and door interlock systems.

At DICTATOR, customer needs are our main focus. The highest priority is given to providing individual advice and solutions – from the exact design of the right gas spring together with an installation recommendation to complex special automation solutions with door operators. Our products are manufactured in our own production facilities in Germany and Europe – in many cases on a customer-specific and “tailor-made” basis – and meet the highest quality standards. This ensures individual, perfectly fitting and sustainable results.

The name DICTATOR
We are often asked how we came up with the, admittedly somewhat unusual, name DICTATOR. The name has its roots in the invention of our first product:
In 1930, a German and a Dutchman invented a “hydraulic shock absorber and closer for doors”. On January 15th, 1932, they were granted a patent for this with the number 578533. This special type of door closer dampens the door shortly before it closes, quietly pulls it shut and keeps it closed. Its inventors called this product the DICTATOR, because it dictates the door to close gently but safely.
Since already the origin of the today’s DICTATOR group had international roots, the two inventors chose the international spelling with a “c” instead of the German spelling.

Our senior boss, who took over DICTATOR in 1971, still actively shapes the “DICTATOR family” after more than 50 years!
