DICTATOR Smoke and Heat Detectors – Approved Hold-Open Systems
If doors between fire zones shall normally stay open, it has to be made sure that in the event of a fire they close immediately and reliably.
Such a door requires a hold-open system. The core element of hold-open systems is the smoke detector. It has to spot the smoke of a possible fire in a fast and reliable way. In some cases also heat detectors are used. They register a fast increase in temperature and then trigger.
The DICTATOR smoke and heat detectors presented in the following have been tested and approved by the Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik in Berlin (German Institute of Building and Construction Engineering) for their use in hold-open systems on fire protection closures.
In Germany applies for the mounting and the regular maintenance and control of the components of hold-open systems the general approval of the building authorities for the respective hold-open system. More information about this can be found in Approval for Hold-Open Systems.
To ensure the correct functioning of the hold-open system, the DICTATOR smoke and heat detectors have to be replaced after a maximum of 8 years of operational life. In Germany the DIN 14677 regulates the replacement obligation of fire detectors in hold-open systems.
