Wind “plays” with entrance door to daycare center
The door slamming open led to costly damage
Directly opposite the daycare center is an open field and wind can blow freely. Unfortunately, the entrance door was repeatedly damaged as a result. When opening it, the wind often tore it out of visitors’ hands and it slammed against the façade at full speed. This didn’t do anyone any good: the façade was damaged, the cover of the overhead door closer was bent, the door hinges were distorted and even the door frame was torn out of the wall. Fortunately, no glass was broken.
Daycare center management commissioned DICTATOR to install a back checks
The daycare center management reacted quickly and asked DICTATOR for a solution. It was not that easy:
- there was virtually no space above the door
- the fixing on the door could only be done at the top, as it was an aluminum door with glass
- there was an overhead door closer fitted on the outside
But DICTATOR also finds a solution in such cases. A special mounting plate was made for fixing to the inside header, to which the mounting flange for the back check could then be securely attached. The back check now runs directly underneath the door frame and could be screwed to the door in the frame area at a padded point. As a result, the clearance height of the door (2 m high, 1 m wide) is only minimally reduced. And the overhead door closer could be left as it was. It works perfectly together with the new back check.
The newly developed back check of the 10-29 series with increasing, progressive damping is ideal for doors that are frequently used
DICTATOR has developed a new series especially for doors that are used a lot. Its great advantage: thanks to an elaborate internal construction, the soft-closing effect only sets in bit by bit when the door is opened quickly, so it is initially low and then gradually increases. For the user of the door, this means that the door opens completely without damping up to at least 50°, even when thrown open. And the wind still doesn’t stand a chance.

Back checks
Back checks are used on doors or windows that are torn out of the hand by wind, draft or normal opening. They dampen doors/windows in the opening direction and limit the opening angle. This prevents them from slamming open without control, prevents damage and protects people near the door.
Various models cover a wide range of applications: from lightweight interior doors and windows to very large/heavy doors with high loads. Many models can be used in combination with overhead door closers and are optionally available with integrated hold-open.
