Reliably closed glass door despite drafts

The Steyr City Museum in Upper Austria has existed since 1913, when the demolition of the 300-year-old warehouse building was prevented by preservationists, and, since then, the museum has been telling the eventful history of the city of Steyr.

Renovation of the museum

In 2021, the concept of the museum was updated and the buildings were restored. In the process, the historical structure was enhanced with features of modern architecture, and the premises were also updated in technical and functional terms.

The museum is now designed in a very open way and has several exits, which, unfortunately, often results in drafts in the building. In the case of an full-glass door in the entrance area, this meant that the installed floor spring didn’t have enough closing force to hold the door permanently closed.

Requirement: The full glass door should always remain closed despite drafts

The company SERVuS Sicherheitstechnik Steyr GmbH, an experienced specialist company for securing private, commercial and industrial buildings, presented the museum with two alternatives to solve the problem permanently:

• Either the installation of a new floor spring with higher force including a new glass door, as the existing cut-out was not compatible, as well as any necessary chisel work for the insertion of the offset box, etc.
• or to just install the door damper on the existing glass door

The door damper V 1600 can also be used on full glass doors. For this purpose, use mounting plates for the door damper and hooks, which are attached by means of an adhesive foil. The DICTATOR mounting set also includes counter plates that can be attached to the opposite side of the glass door so that the adhesive area is covered.

The function of the door damper impresses

The door damper is a compelling solution for full-glass doors, just like here in the museum, not only for cost reasons and from the point of view of sustainability; the museum employees are also fully satisfied with the function of the door damper, which pulls the door gently and quietly into the latch and ensures that the door doesn’t open again as a result of the drafts in the building.
