Hotel Weinbauer – The door to the parking lot is always securely closed by an ‘invisible hand’.

The Hotel Weinbauer in Schwangau has been in operation 1865. Old and new harmonize perfectly here, so that the guests can enjoy the flair of the old building with the comfort of today. Therefore, modernization work is carried out with the utmost sensitivity.

At the side exit to the car park, the old arched door was to be replaced by a new arched door which meets today’s energy and safety requirements – and still blends in with the historic building. That was no problem for the company Wirthensohn (http://www.fenster-wirthensohn.de) from Dietmannsried (Germany).

Somewhat more difficult, however, was the requirement that the door should always close by itself for security reasons, but no door closer should be visible. The product Wirthensohn originally wanted was the DICTATOR RTS tube door closer. However, this was not feasible due to the space between the hinges.

But DICTATOR still had a solution at hand that could be implemented without any need for remodelling: even if the door is solid and very sturdy, an Adjunkt E22 closing spring is enough to close the door. Unlike most commercially available closing springs, the Adjunkt is built into the door leaf. In this case, the ‘larger’ version with a diameter of 22 mm was used. For smaller doors, the closing spring Adjunkt E16 with a diameter of only 16 mm is usually sufficient.

For the spring tube of the concealed jamb closer you simply drill a correspondingly deep hole (about 250 mm for the E22) in the door leaf, mill a recess for the front plate and the counter plate into the door and the door frame and then hook the chain into the counter plate. The closing force can be adapted by means of the chain (see the installation instructions).

To prevent the door from slaming, thus disturbing guests – even when the closing spring is optimally adjusted – a door damper 1400 was also discretly installed at the top of the closing edge.

Without a closer look, you can barely see the closing spring Adjunkt.

Despite its small size, the E22 closes the large heavy door without a problem.

Discreetly on the top left corner, the door damper R1400 ensures that the door never slams shut.
