Landing door damper ED STD3
For hinged lift doors of the makes Thyssen/Stahl and Otis
Characteristics
- The DICTATOR ED STD3 hinged door damper is designed for the final damping of hinged landing doors being closed by a spring. The damper is installed in the door frame and is accessible through the lift shaft.
- The piston rod of the damper points through the door frame and makes contact with the side of the closing door where the hinges are fixed. To protect the sheet steel on the door leaf from wear, a special hardened counter plate for the piston rod needs to be fixed to the point where the piston rod meets the door.
- The ED STD3 damper works hydraulically. Its special feature is the oil tank on top which is connected to the damping cylinder. This guarantees that the ED STD3 slows down and effectively damps the door as soon as it hits the piston. If the cylinder consisted only of a simple tube, air in the cylinder could reduce the damping considerably.
- Highest performance and a long operational life of the damper are achieved by a tempered guide for the piston rod in the damper and a set of special seals. A scraper ring of polyurethane prevents the soiling of the guiding and sealing elements.

Installation
Installation notes
The ED STD3 is inserted from the lift shaft into the door frame so that the piston rod points through a hole in the frame to the door and hits the closing lift door.
The landing door damper is screwed to the frame at three points:
2 fixing borings in the front plate
1 fixing boring in the rear flap of the casing.
IMPORTANT: Never tighten the screws of the front plate too much. This might distort the front plate and thus block the piston rod.
It is imperative to fix the included counter plate (1) to the door – also when replacing the damper. When the door is closing, the piston rod should hit the center of the counter plate.
For Thyssen/Stahl doors is used the rectangular counter plate made of hardened spring steel, for Otis doors the round counter plate of tempered CrMoV steel.
To achieve optimal damping close the door (pushing in the piston rod) several times to expell any air left in the damping cylinder prior to installation.
Adjusting
With the piston rod fully extended grasp ONLY the knurled part (2) with a pair of pliars and turn it. Important: Please make sure that you do not damage the polished surface of the piston rod! With a damaged piston rod the damper will no longer work properly.
Turning clockwise: less damping
Turning anti-clockwise: stronger damping
Maintenance
The ED STD 3 damper does not require maintenance. In case of being soiled it is enough to carefully clean the piston rod. By removing the cap (3) you can check the oil filling. If necessary, refill oil.
