Gusts of wind can no longer harm visitors to the Waghäusel pilgrimage church
The statue of the Virgin Mary has been in this Gothic chapel – part of the pilgrimage church in Waghäusel – since 1473. Since then, many people have come to the ‘Mother with the kind heart’ to pray for help. But in 2019 not even she could prevent one of the wings of the main door from getting caught by wind and slamming open so strongly that it pushed a visitor down the stairs. The door hinges were also damaged by the impact.
While searching for a solution, the board of directors of the Waghäusel monastery came across the DICTATOR website and our back checks. And so only two days later the fitting back check was delivered. Since then, it ensures that the wind no longer has a chance and that it doesn’t throw the door open – even under strong winds. Besides, it also locks the door leaves at 90° if necessary, without posing any obstacle or tripping hazard on the floor.
Of course, DICTATOR also calculated the most suitable fixing points, as the back check shares the space on the door with an overhead door closer.

Back checks
Back checks are used on doors or windows that can be blown open by wind, draft or even during normal operation. They dampen doors/windows in the opening direction and limit the opening angle. This prevents doors and windows from swinging open without control, prevents damage and protects people standing next to the door.
Various models cover a wide range of applications: from lightweight interior doors and windows to very large/heavy doors with high loads. Many models can be used in combination with overhead door closers and are optionally available with an integrated hold-open in the open position.
