Switching to renewable energies requires intelligent solutions: off-grid fast charging stations from ADS-TEC Energy with DICTATOR back checks on maintenance doors

Charging stations with battery storage for ultra-fast charging

Expanding the charging infrastructure for electric cars is a huge challenge. In many cases, the current electricity grid makes it impossible to charge them quickly. However, if you have to travel long distances in a car, minimizing charging times is an essential prerequisite for the acceptance of electric cars.

The German company ADS-TEC Energy has developed a solution that is absolutely flexible and offers perfect performance immediately without the need for a lengthy expansion of the power grid: the ChargePost fast charging system with integrated battery modules and two charging points – and all in the smallest of spaces.

Access to the inside of the charging station through a large lockable maintenance door

Easy, quick access to the inside of the ChargePost must be possible for maintenance purposes. This is where all the hardware and software is located, including the individual battery modules. The door weighs approx. 150 kg, is 1,300 mm wide and over 2,200 mm high. As the ChargePost charging stations are installed outdoors, the wind can pose a considerable risk:

  • If the door is opened for maintenance purposes, it can be slammed open by the wind, damaging the hinges and door. The consequence: in the worst case, the charging station would have to be taken out of service and the door could no longer be closed properly, which means loss of earnings and high repair costs
  • When maintenance work is being carried out, the door must be reliably open. The required opening angle is just over 100° to ensure unhindered access to all modules in the interior. For reasons of space and design, it is not possible to fit a door holder.

ADS-TEC Energy urgently needed a solution to these two problems. DICTATOR was able to provide it with just one product.

Back check prevents the maintenance door from being thrown open by the wind and provides a hold-open at 103°

There is very little space available inside the charging station. Nevertheless, in close cooperation between the design department at ADS-TEC Energy and DICTATOR’s technical customer service, a solution was developed that is already installed in hundreds of ChargePost charging stations and provides valuable services: a Series 14-28 back check with 300 mm stroke, integrated hold-open at 103° and damping in both directions (so the door is damped both when opening and closing if a gust of wind catches it). Of course, DICTATOR also supplied the appropriate fixing accessories.

This means that the charging stations can do what they are designed and built for: ultra-fast charging of electric cars. Nobody needs to worry about the door during maintenance work. Simply open it and it remains in position until it is closed again. The wind has no chance and maintenance work can be carried out quickly and efficiently, as the service technician does not have to “struggle” with the door.

The intelligent and imaginative solution: An ultra-fast charging station with integrated battery storage that enables charging for a range of approx. 100 km in 5 minutes.

There is hardly any space inside the ChargePost for the back check. But thanks to decades of experience, DICTATOR’s technical customer service could solve this problem easily.

Back checks

Back checks are used on doors or windows that are torn out of the hand by wind, draft or normal opening. They dampen doors/windows in the opening direction and limit the opening angle. This prevents them from slamming open without control, prevents damage and protects people near the door.

Various models cover a wide range of applications: from lightweight interior doors and windows to very large/heavy doors with high loads. Many models can be used in combination with overhead door closers and are optionally available with integrated hold-open.
