DIREKT meets Gothic – Door closer for gothic pointed semi-circular door in the collegiate church of Horb

The collegiate church of Horb can look back on a very long history. It was first mentioned in a document in 1282. Later, in 1725, it was rebuilt in baroque style after a devastating fire. Only the eastern entrance portal points to the original Gothic style of the church.

Due to the shape of the door, sharply tapered at the top, it’s nearly impossible to install a conventional door closer. Thus, it was a challenge to fullfill the requirement of the door closing automatically every time.

The company Edwin König Sicherheitstechnik in Balingen (Germany) solved this problem tactfully and expertly. They installed a  door closer DIREKT, which does not disturb the image of the door as a testimony of its time. The DIREKT does not require a frame above the door and the closing force is not transmitted to the door with an arm that stands on the way of the beautiful door. Instead, the force is transmitted “directly” from the closer to the door. Another very important feature of the DIREKT is that the closing speed can be adjusted – as slowly as desired. After all, every visitor should be able to walk through the door at their own pace. And no matter how slow the speed is, the DIREKT still closes the door completely, safely and reliably.

The ogival door is one of the few remaining legacies of the church’s Gothic past.

But the DIREKT is also the ideal door closing solution for baroque semi-circular arched doors. It is very discreet, it’s speed can be adjusted as slow as desired, and yet always closes reliably.
